Sewing Machine Accessories-Organization

Hi Creative People,

Today, I am sharing another one of my sewing room organization tips!

I am always looking for ways to stay organized within my sewing room...surely, we all must know this is truly a constant challenge to stay organized while being creative. The area I focused on this time was my sewing machine feet. As I would use different feet for different projects, I would just use them, remove them and toss them on to the side of my machine to later get pushed aside or hidden under mess throughout the sewing process. After knocking a few to the floor, running the risk of breaking a few, I then stopped and decided to get them under control. I searched online for some tips for organizing my sewing machine feet and came across some great tips. Before I show you what useful tip, I used, I feel it necessary to share with you some of the nonsense I experienced. Yes, I am slightly embarrassed to show you this, but, this is real life...

Not that bad, right...but, keep in mind, I did have to remove some fabric and items that were on top of them before I took this photo! :)

I spent countless hours online to searching for ways to organize my machine feet and just surfing and surfing into the abyss that is the Internet for me! I am a visual person, so it was more beneficial for me to look for something that had room to house all my machine feet, not only for my personal sewing machine, but for the sewing machines for my students to use. I am sorry that I do not remember where I got the idea from, but if you type in Google, "sewing machine feet organization" I believe you will find some useful information.

I purchased this large organizer from JoAnn's with a coupon and I love it, because it has adjustable slots which allow me to fit some of the larger feet I have, like the walking foot and the hunky ruffler foot. I took the time to label each section to know what the feet are used for and to know exactly where to put the feet back. I took two pictures because I could not get the whole thing in the entire frame...you see the labels I put at the bottom of each section...

I even took the time to label the outside of the box...not that I could not see what was in the box, I am just a little OCD about that sort of thing...yes, I label just about everything! I am super happy with the way my machine feet are now organized! My sewing machine feet have a home and I house that home directly under my sewing machine in a drawer in my sewing table. When I need a different foot, this is now where they live, conveniently under my machine! LOVE IT!!

I have always been a strong believer in...it does not matter what type of sewing machine you have, it matters how you use it! In other words, work with what you have! Of course, I would love to have one of those top of the line sewing machines with all the 'bells and whistles', but, right now...it's not in the budget. Besides, it is my intent to show my students you don't have to immediately purchase an expensive sewing machine to get any sewing job done, but you do want to have the right equipment. Anyway, instead of having my machine feet spewed all around my sewing machine table, they now have a home...I am certain I will still toss them aside, but at least they will have a home when I decide to clean my sewing room area.

I hope you give this a try, or if you have any suggestions for me, please feel free to leave a comment or send me an email.
Happy Sewing!!
