My Antique Sewing Machines

Hey Creative People!

In all my years of sewing, I have always adored the look of vintage sewing machines. Not only do I adore the look, but I have developed a new appreciation for their performance...let's take a moment to think about their performance...don't worry, it will be a quick moment! A machine that was built almost (if not more than) 100 years ago...is still working in this day and age!!! In fact, a lot of the working vintage sewing machines work better than our today's 'high-tech' sewing machines!! AMAZING! right?? The vintage sewing machines that are refurbished with some oil, elbow grease and a little love...they sound and work like a dream!

Well, I was checking on Craigslist
to see how affordable they were and I came across some great deals!! I purchased a Necchi BF Sewing Machine for $5.00! No, that is not a typo...I paid $5.00 for this Necchi Sewing Machine! Necchi sewing machines are made in Italy and is an extremely beautiful piece of equipment!! I think this machine was made in 1954 and its a straight stitch only machine. The person that I purchase this machine from was open and honest and told me the machine is not working, it can be restored or used for parts, they also gave me the motor that goes with it...I was so excited, I took this picture in the back seat of my car!

Here she is in the first night in her new home! She need rewiring, a throat plate, a foot pedal and a backplate...and most of all...some TLC...

Here is the motor that goes to the machine...I can tell by the wires...she need rewiring...I don't know anything about that...I will be seeking out professional help in this area.

The missing backplate on the back is not as important as getting her to work...it's just an aesthetic thinking with me...it will probably be one of the last things I worry about.

It's so pretty! I am going to try to restore it...if it is unsalvageable, I will shine it up and put it on a display shelf! For $5.00...I can't lose!

I was so excited about the Necchi that I had to check back on CL to see if I could get more deals...well needless to say, this beauty is a Singer made in 1948 that I paid $20.00 the machine and the cabinet!! ...again, that was not a typo...I said $20.00 for the sewing machine and cabinet!! The person that I purchased this from was extremely nice and just wanted to find a home for the machine...and I am glad this machine found my home! She had been sitting up for some years...of course there was years of dust on her. Here is a picture of her as soon as I brought her home and pulled her out of the cabinet...she is a rusty, dusty and needs a lot of love...

I stepped back a little further to show you the full size of the cabinet, which is in pretty fair condition, considering its age...Sorry about the bright lamp in the background of my messy sewing room...

Here is a picture of her when I wiped the first layer of dust off...

As far as I can tell...all of the original parts are still attached

The belt on the machine is cracked and clearly needs to be replaced...heck the light even still works on this beautiful machine! Here is a full on picture of her after the second layer of dust was removed. I am not even sure how to remove the rust off the machine or if rust can be removed...please email or comment if you guys can help me with that!!

Well, after I cleaned it off and oiled it up...guess what?...she works!! She runs so good!! I have to purchase a belt for her and I am sure she needs some professional restoration but at this point...she works really well and I am super excited!!!

I wanted to introduce you to first two babies that will start my antiques sewing machine family...to be honest with myself...I only want to grow my family to about a total of five machines...I believe that is all I can house in my home without having to move into a bigger house :)

I hope you like my machines!
Happy Sewing!
