Sewing Confessionals-Attention Diversions II

Greetings Good People,

I know I have been missing for a while, but I hope to get back on track with blogging. I have had many changes going on in life, to which I will bring you up to speed as I post...but, I am happy to be back and hopefully I can stay on a schedule that will work for all. :) Now, if you have not read any other posts on my blog, let me clue you in on my language. I have this "thing" that I often do, that I like to refer to as "attention diversion" projects. You know, those projects that you are so excited to began that nothing else you may be working on really matters :). Well, I was hit with my "attention diversion" project today and I want to show you the steps I took to complete it.

I made one of these about two years ago and I loved her, but of course, I needed another pin cushion, so I decided to make another one today. When you go on YouTube, and search 'DIY dress form pincushion' loads of videos will pop up and show you step-by-step instructions. There a loads of great people that inspire you to decorate you dress form pincushion with loads of beautiful beads and trimmings! Well, after several hours of clicking on video after video, I became ultra inspired, I downloaded the pattern from DIY dish network and got busy.

After I cut out the pattern pieces, I had to decide on what fabric I wanted to use. I know I wanted her to represent my business colors which is black, white, and red, and I wanted her to have some 'bling' which I love. So, I scoured around my sewing area and got started. Here she is, my beautiful dress form pincushion.

When I finished with her and adorned her with the blingage I had in my stash, I was really pleased with the result. Then, when I really looked at her...I noticed she was lopsided at the shoulders, I made the skirt too long whereas I cannot see the bling I put on the candle holder that I hot glued her to!!! Crap! I have groped and poked her until I got her to retain her shape and she still looks lopsided...oh well, forget it! I give up...I will do better on the next one.  Then, I decided to add black lace trim to the top of the skirt to divert attention away from her too long skirt...what do you think? Did I achieve it?

Well, despite the obvious flaws I made with her, she reminds me of some sort of business dignitary with the sash around her shoulder. :) ...I really like the way she looks...I am going to make more...I am off to Dollar Tree to get more candle holders as a base for her...the next time, I will make the skirt shorter to show off the blingage I put on the base of the candle holder. Sorry for the crappy camera work!

Until next time, happy sewing!
Stephanie
