Sewing Room Organization Tips

Hi Creative People,

I want to share with you, some of the organizational elements in my sewing room. Although, I will not be doing a whole room tour at this time, I will be doing one in the future. Here are some of the ways I chose to organize a lot of my sewing notions and supplies.

I purchased a shelf to put up above my TV to house my many different colored buttons, snaps, hook & eyes,  and other tiny notions in small glass jars that I purchased from Family Dollar for a dollar each and I also used some jars that are cleaned out after having food in them. Just below the shelf, I used command hooks and binder clips to hang my rulers. I ran out of command hooks, so I had to double up my ruler on the hooks, I figured eventually, I will get more hooks for the growing number of rulers I have been accumulating. For many of the other small notions, I have several small plastic drawers to organize them. Because I have so many small pieces, I felt it necessary to label the drawers. The following photos are just a closer look of what I have in the drawers.

I have these drawers sitting on a table in the sewing room, let's review the contents in the black drawers. I have one serger sewing machine and I chose to keep a lot of my serger machine supplies in these black drawers.

In this drawer, I keep the thread holder, tweezers, and machine oil, I labeled that drawer, serger machine maintenance. My serger needles are in the next drawer. I keep the throat plate and different presser feet for the serger in the top drawer.

I don't have anything stored in the top section in the drawers, but of course, I have room to grow...always a good thing!!

If in a case, I use any spool of thread that is smaller than the normal cones used on the serger, I have additional spool thread holders housed in this drawer.

I had additional drawers to use for the other sewing machines I have for my students, so I put those extra supplies in the drawers I have left over. When I use a smaller or larger spools of thread with the regular sewing machines these are the caps that come with the sewing machine to use. I also put the darning throat plates in the drawer above. When you look at these photos, you must know, again, the reason why I have so many sewing machine parts is because I have six brand new sewing machines that I purchased for my students to use during class time.

I have a set of white drawers that I keep extra straight pins, some machine feet, machine needles, and bobbins.

In the other tower of white drawers, I keep different sized hand needles, machine care items for the sewing machines; different sized needles required for different projects. There is a drawer for my seam gauges for all students, different machine feet, extra straight pins, seam rippers, and safety pins.

I posted as many pictures as I could to show the organization of some of my sewing supplies, for the most part, everything is still organized in this fashion. The only thing that I change is where I house my sewing machine feet for my sewing machine. I will write another post about where I store my sewing machine feet. I also like to keep this red container, that I purchased from the Dollar Tree, on my cutting table. This container houses my wrist pin cushion, my scissors, rotary cutter, glue stick, magnetic pin cushion, stitch witchery, seam gauge, and marking pens. In short, these are the most frequently reached for items that I like to keep near my cutting table.

I hope something in this post was helpful for you, feel free to leave a comment if you have any questions, comments, or suggestions. Thanks for stopping by!
Happy Sewing and organizing!!
