My Favorite Sewing Tools II

Hi Creative People,

I was thinking about the post I wrote about my favorite sewing tools and I wanted to add a couple that deserve an honorable mention.

The first one is a single-edge razor, I can't remember where I purchased this box of razors, but they came in a box like this...from the first picture...I think it might have came with something else, I just don't remember what.

The one edge is covered whereas I can hold that side in my hand and use the razor edge to cut my stitches. There were four blades in the box.

I use the single-edge straight razor along side with my seam ripper to rip out long seams. I first use the seam ripper to start ripping out the end of the seam and then as I slightly pull the seam apart to expose the thread, I use the razor to cut the threads apart. This comes in especially handy when I make a mock-up and need to take it apart to make my pattern. When using the straight edge razor...as with any sharp object, please be careful to only aim the razor on the thread and not near the fabric. This blade is super sharp, be careful.

My next favorite tool that I have been loving! Tube Turners Set. I purchased mine from JoAnn's a while ago. I just checked online and they are currently on sale, click here to check that out.

They come in this set of three different sizes. They are primarily used to turn straps or any tubular item inside out, quickly. I have taken several photos of how this process works and I hope to explain it whereas you will find this helpful to you in your sewing room.

Depending on the project, you will first need to decide which size you will use. For my demonstration, I am using the larger size tube-3/8".

For this demo, I am making a small tie/string for lounge pants. The long edge is stitched and one short edge is stitched closed. I need to turn this fabric tube with the right side facing out. Once you figure what tube to use, insert the tube inside your fabric tube all the way to the end as shown in the picture. Take the wooded dowel that comes with the tube and use that to put the fabric in the hole of the tube.

As you are using the wooded dowel to push the fabric inside the tube, the purple tube is pushing the rest of the fabric the out...this process is so fast that by the time you finish reading what I wrote, your tube will be facing the right side out!

Essentially, you end up with the wooden dowel inside of the fabric strap and the purple tube will be on the outside...where the dowel use to be. Just take out the wooden dowel and press your strap and move on with the next step to finish your projects. This gadget really works great for many different sized straps, this is one of the many gadgets that I will forever be a big fan!!

As I work on other projects, I am sure I will be back with more sewing gadgets that I just love!! Thanks for reading...feel free to share your favorite sewing tools with me!
Until next time!!
